Sports wing with two sports halls

Blumer Lehmann is acting as general contractor to plan and build a modern temporary school building for Wiedikon cantonal school at its Hohlstrasse location. The complex consists of two school buildings and a sports wing with two sports halls for roughly 650 pupils. An existing construction contract between the Canton of Zurich and Blumer Lehmann will be used to implement the temporary school building – and meet the tight deadline.

The temporary school complex will provide the necessary space for school and sports until the new building earmarked for the Zurich Wiedikon cantonal school on Hohlstrasse is ready for use. The sports hall – two individual halls with accompanying changing rooms and side rooms – should be ready for use at the start of term in summer 2024. It is expected to be a regular venue for PE classes during the scheduled seven-year temporary phase. The sports halls and a section of the changing room area will be erected as a prefabricated timber structure. The wet rooms and the installations room in the changing room wing consist of timber modules. The entire sports building meets the Minergie-Eco standard and satisfies accessibility and safety requirements. Thanks to the re-usability of the modules and elements, it is also economical and offers the client the greatest possible flexibility needed for other school locations in the canton of Zurich. This is made possible by the ability to re-order additional components and re-use existing components from now obsolete temporary structures in a different combination.

The temporary sports hall wing is connected to one of the two school buildings by two projecting roofs. There are also plans to add an all-weather sports ground and vast green spaces to the outdoor area.
